Viannet Okouma joined Vaalco Energy in February, 2023, as Country Manager & MD of Vaalco Gabon S.A, overseeing Vaalco Energy operations and businesses in Gabon.  Mr. Okouma has more than twenty-five (25) years of technical and business leadership experience within the oil and gas industry.  His geographically diverse experience spans the areas of West Africa, South America, Europe, Middle East, USA,  and Canada.

Prior to joining Vaalco, Mr. Okouma started his technical career with Shell (Gabon, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Canada, and USA) and progressed to a Director position with Gabon Oil Company (GOC).   He then moved to Nexen Energy ULC as General Manager, and prior to joining Vaalco, as Senior Strategy Advisor for ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company).

Mr. Okouma is a strategic thinker with a long-term vision and passion for the oil & gas industry.  He has a passion for people, anthropology, sociology and psychology.

Mr. Okouma has a BSc. and PhD in Applied Mathematics with Theoretical Physics from University College London, and a MPhil and a D.I.C in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London.  He has authored/co-authored more than twenty-five (25) technical papers in fields development planning, LNG, unconventional resources and portfolio management/optimization.
