João Marques is Executive Director of Strategic Advisory at APO Group, where he advises governments, energy companies, and international institutions on strategic positioning, narrative clarity, and market credibility across Africa.

He has over 15 years of experience working across African oil and gas markets, supporting operators, service companies, and public institutions on how energy projects and sector reforms are framed, communicated, and understood by investors, partners, and international stakeholders. His work has involved engagement with companies including Eni, BP, TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Sonangol, SLB, Halliburton, and Maurel & Prom, as well as national oil companies and regulators across West, Central, East, and Southern Africa.

João has also worked closely with governments in countries such as Angola, Senegal, Gabon, Congo, Tanzania, and Namibia, supporting efforts to promote investment, improve market perception, and articulate policy and industrial priorities in the oil and gas sector.

He is a published author and a regular moderator and speaker on African energy markets, geopolitics, and strategic communications, and is fluent in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish.
