Executive Director, Lead for Europe, CIS, and Africa NGL research, S&P Global Commodity Insights

Mr. Cavos is the Executive Director of S&P Global’s Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) practice based in Barcelona, where he leads research initiatives across Europe, the CIS, and Africa. In this role, he oversees market insights on LPG and NGLs, with a particular focus on renewable liquid gases. He collaborates with colleagues across multiple departments to drive research and analysis in this growing sector.

With over 15 years of global consulting experience, Mr. Cavos has advised clients in the US, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, specializing in corporate strategy, M&A, and innovation. He joined S&P Global in 2013 through the acquisition of PacWest Consulting Partners and has since worked closely with midstream operators, LPG distributors, and private equity firms.

Mr. Cavos possesses deep expertise in LPG Adoption Strategy, Ethane Market Analysis, Midstream Infrastructure Advisory, Natural Gas Monetization, and Corporate Strategy Development. He is recognized for his ability to provide actionable insights that help clients navigate complex market dynamics, identify growth opportunities, and optimize business strategies.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Cavos was part of S&P Global’s Energy Strategy Consulting group in Houston, where he focused on upstream operations. He began his career as a management consultant in Chicago, addressing strategic challenges in power generation and utilities. Mr. Cavos is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.

He co-authored the World Liquid Gas Association’s LPG Road Map for Africa, which quantifies the potential for LPG adoption and provides recommendations for regulators and NGOs to foster an environment conducive to growth, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Developed in collaboration with the Cooking for Life Africa Task Force (CFLA), the Road Map aims to contribute to the IEA’s Clean Cooking in Africa Summit and related initiatives, including COP29. Mr. Cavos’ role at S&P Global was pivotal in gathering feedback from WLGA members, analyzing internal data, quantifying growth scenarios for LPG, and developing strategies to meet growth targets by 2030.

In addition to his work on the LPG Road Map, Mr. Cavos has been involved in a variety of high-profile advisory projects. One such project included supporting a group of lenders financing a major petrochemical facility in Northwest Europe, which utilizes US ethane as its primary feedstock. In this capacity, he assisted in evaluating the competitiveness of US ethane relative to other feedstocks, assessing the strength and viability of key upstream producers, and analyzing price formation methodologies and regulatory impacts in both Europe and North America.

He also worked on an ethane market and pricing analysis for a Saudi petrochemical producer, focusing on the availability and pricing of US ethane and its impact on ethylene production cash costs. In this role, Mr. Cavos evaluated the geopolitical and upstream market environment affecting ethane infrastructure and pricing, and facilitated a strategic workshop with the client's executive team to discuss the implications of the analysis.

Furthermore, Mr. Cavos provided market due diligence for a gas processing asset in Ghana, supporting financing for midstream infrastructure in the region. He evaluated regional and global market opportunities for the asset, its competitiveness relative to key producers, and developed scenarios for NGL supply, demand, and pricing, all while considering the impact of public policy surrounding the energy transition and climate change.

Mr. Cavos’ extensive expertise in the NGL and energy sectors, combined with his global consulting experience, positions him as a key leader in shaping market strategies and insights for S&P Global’s clients worldwide.
