Technip Energies’ Marco Villa to Attend Invest in African Energy Forum in Paris

Technip Energies’ Marco Villa to Attend Invest in African Energy Forum in Paris
Marco Villa, Chief Business Officer at Technip Energies, will attend the upcoming Invest in African Energy (IAE) Forum in Paris. Marco Villa’s participation is expected to support discussions around the challenges and opportunities faced in Africa’s natural gas sector, with a focus on the impact of FLNG deployment and emerging LNG hubs in Africa.

As a global technology and engineering powerhouse for energy infrastructure and decarbonization, Technip Energies designs and delivers leading solutions for the LNG market across Africa, aligning with continental goals to increase gas monetization and sustainable development. The company has a strong presence across both emerging and mature markets across the continent.

IAE 2025 is an exclusive forum designed to facilitate investment between African energy markets and global investors. Taking place May 13-14, 2025 in Paris, the event offers delegates two days of intensive engagement with industry experts, project developers, investors and policymakers. In the MSGBC region, Technip Energies played a pivotal role in the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas development. The company led the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for phase one of the project, which spans the maritime border of Senegal and Mauritania. In 2019, Technip Energies was awarded the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning contract for the development. The project achieved significant milestones with first gas production in December 2024 and first LNG production in January 2025. Upon full commissioning, the facility is designed to reach a production of 2.3 million tons per annum (mtpa). As the first large-scale LNG development in the MSGBC region, GTA demonstrates substantial potential, with plans for a second phase that will double output to 5 mtpa. Beyond GTA, both Senegal and Mauritania are actively pursuing additional gas developments. In Senegal, the Yakaar-Teranga project is poised to reach Final Investment Decision in 2026, with production starting between 2028 and 2029.

On the refining front, Senegal is strategically expanding its industrial capabilities. Following the start of production at the Sangomar oil field, the country has expanded its SAR’s refinery capacity. Technip Energies led the Engineering, Procurement services and Construction management services for the project.

Mauritania's next strategic focus lies in the BirAllah field, estimated to contain 60 trillion cubic feet of gas resources. In Mozambique, Technip Energies has been a key player in developing offshore LNG facilities. The company led the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the Coral Sul FLNG facility, which began operations in 2022. By August 2024, the facility had achieved a cumulated production of 5 million tons and constantly operated above its nameplate capacity, with availability exceeding expectations. This achievement effectively positioned Mozambique as a notable LNG exporter. Additionally, Technip Energies was awarded the FEED contract by energy major ExxonMobil in September 2024 for the Rovuma LNG project. The project comprises the development of an LNG plant with a total capacity of 18 mtpa, featuring 12 fully modularized LNG e-trains with a capacity of 1.5 mtpa each.

As Africa continues to expand its LNG project portfolio, Marco Villa’s participation at IAE 2025 is expected to provide valuable insights into the role LNG will play in Africa’s energy future. Technip Energies will contribute to pivotal discussions on gas monetization, strategies for enhancing operational efficiency and strategic areas of collaboration.
