Innovative Energy Finance: IAE 2025 to Unlock Capital for Africa’s Energy Future

Energy finance and investment strategies will take center stage at the Invest in African Energy (IAE) 2025 Forum in Paris this May, as part of a dedicated panel on Innovative Financing for Energy: Unlocking Capital to Drive Africa’s Diverse Natural Resource Potential.

The session will unite energy leaders, policymakers and investment experts to explore innovative funding mechanisms, de-risking strategies and capital mobilization efforts essential for financing Africa’s energy future. With Africa’s energy landscape rich in natural resources, from over 125 billion barrels of oil reserves to 620 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, securing adequate financing remains a critical hurdle to unlocking large-scale development and ensuring energy security across the continent. Additionally, the continent holds 60% of the world’s prime solar potential, making it a global leader in clean energy opportunities. Despite these abundant resources, Africa continues to face significant challenges when it comes to accessing the necessary capital to develop and harness its energy potential.

IAE 2025 is an exclusive forum designed to facilitate investment between African energy markets and global investors. Taking place May 13-14, 2025 in Paris, the event offers delegates two days of intensive engagement with industry experts, project developers, investors and policymakers. At IAE 2025, a dedicated panel will explore innovative solutions to overcome these challenges, highlighting strategies to attract investment, enhance Africa’s competitive edge and drive transformative development.

The panel will feature distinguished speakers, including Admassu Tadesse, Group President & Managing Director of Trade Development Bank; Liz Williamson, Head of Energy Corporate Finance at Rand Merchant Bank; Rene Awambeng, Founder, Managing Partner & President of Premier Invest; and Taiwo Okwor, Vice President of Investment at Africa Finance Corporation.

The session will also delve into the potential of local financial instruments, public-private partnerships and enhanced regional collaboration as actionable strategies to pave the way for accelerated energy access and economic growth. As the continent continues to evolve, the role of the private sector, regional entities and governments will be integral in overcoming the financing gap and ensuring Africa’s energy transformation.
